It looks like MPlayer is looking for a codec called 'avisynth.dll' that isn't included with the latest available w32codec-all package from Packman (20050412-0.pm.0).
This means that none of the demuxers in mplayer were able to read the file, so mplayer decided to fallback to avisynth dll which does not exist in w32codec-all. It looks like the wmv9dmo codec is not loading. What is the output of ls /usr/lib/win32/*dmo* ? Charles -- printk("NONONONOO!!!!\n"); linux-2.6.6/drivers/atm/zatm.c
