Just a few months ago, after doing a lot of googling and testing, I set up gnome (with gconf-editor and 'Edit > Preferences...') to open links in email (using Thunderbird) in a new tab in the current firefox window. For some reason, this no longer works. Have you checked Firefox preferences

and check Open links from applications in a new tab in the most recent window. Yeah. Did that. Restarted FF numerous times with this set. Still no go.
What I use under KDE "file associations" is the following command line:
'/usr/bin/firefox' -remote "openURL(%u,new-window)"
Thanks but nope, also tried %s and new-tab. (Oddly, the above causes FF to open a new window but with the wrong URL.) BTW, using gnome. -- "This world ain't big enough for the both of us," said the big noema to the little noema.
