I do this on my router, so even though I have WEP (my old laptop does not do WPA), I also have MAC validation, so that the only systems that can connect to my router are those listed by MAC address. I do this specifically when my daughter comes because while her Power Book does encryption, it sometimes won't connect, so I turn off security but leave MAC validation on.
