maybe the question is silly and/or I was unable to find an answer but, why the development of SUSE Linux on SPARC has been discontinued? Are there any plans to (re)start such a thing?
Because there is too little (or no) demand for that. SUSE Linux theoretically can be compiled on SPARC, so if there is demand, anyone can start "SUSE Linux on SPARC" subproject within openSUSE community, and receive community support. I'm not a SPARC owner - so I can't help - but if you want to start such a project - good luck - it will be nice. P.S. According to Distrowatch, SUSE Linux never had SPARC support, so it is not true that it was discontinued. http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=suse
