I don't see any problem here with 10.0 and 5.5.
In VMWare, go to the "VM" menu>>Removable Devices>>USB Devices and check the one you want to use.
I get the message: ********* Message ************* A USB device is about to be unplugged from the host and connected to this virtual machine. It will first be stopped to enable safe removal. With some devices, the host may display the message "The device can now safely be removed." *********** End ***************
5.5 automatically connects the device and unloads modules from the Linux Host. Going back to its use in Linux is a whole other issue. You may have to unplug and replug it. But, you run the risk of loosing your USB mouse, which has happened to me several times.
But, straight after the previous message, when I try to use the usb device like my mobile as usb with VMWare, it then issues the message: ********* Message ************* The specified device appears to be claimed by another driver (cdc_acm) on the host operating system which means that the device may be in use. VMware Workstation cannot safely take control of the device until the host driver is unloaded. ********* End ***************** If I unload the cdc_acm, I suspect that I will loose all usb devices like my mouse as you did. Fortunately, unloading is blocked because the device is busy (with mouse I presume).
Now, I either use a USB device in Linux or in VMWare, but not in both, interchangeably.
How do you get to use it interchangeably when the cdc_acm is loaded? :-) Al
