Hi,
I purchased Suse Linux Professional 9.2 in December '04. I was unable to find a print driver for my Lexmark Optra S 1625 at the time so I rarely used the OS which shares the same box with 2 other operating systems (FreeBSD 5.4 and Windows XP Professional).
The printer is currently attached to a second FreeBSD 5.4 machine and I've been lucky enough to configure everything to print successfully...except for Suse. I'm considering an upgrade to 10.0 but only if I get lucky with a print driver.
This is my first posting to this mailing list and I would just like some suggestions as where I might find some help resolving my driver issue (i.e., archives, websites, etc.).
thnx,

Ignore my previous post.. I just installed the Lexmark Optra S 1625 driver on SuSE 9.3. This is how I did it. 1. Download MPLX2K2E.EXE from Lexmark.com. This is the Postscript Driver for NT/2000/XP/2003. 2. Use wine to extract the files. 3. Locate the file called ops1625.pp_ or the ops1625p.pp_ These are the compressed Postscript drivers. They will be in a folder called Win_2000. 4. Use a Windows 2000 or XP computer to expand the compressed driver. Open a cmd prompt and expand the driver with this command. expand ops1625.pp_ ops1625.ppd 5. Copy the expanded driver back to your SuSE box. 6. Edit the PPD file with a text editor, I used GEDIT, to fix a couple of errors. Change the following two entries: *FormatVersion: "4.2" to *FormatVersion: "4.3" *PSVersion: "(3010)" to *PSVersion: "(3011.103) 2" Add this line: *Manufacturer: "Lexmark" below the line that reads *PCFileName: "OPS1625P.PPD" 7. Use YAST to add the Lexmark Printer when you get to the part to select the driver. Add the modified driver to the database. If you did not make any mistakes the driver should be added. If you get an error check the entries. The new driver should be in the list of the Lexmark drivers to be selected. 8. After you finish installing the driver in YAST, you need to edit the configuration of the printer in CUPS to match the options installed in your printer. That should do it. Hope this Helps.
