Question has no doubt been asked before but I need to be able to use putty.exe to access my SuSE 10.0 (Retail) box. I've tried both v1 and v2 protocols. I can putty.exe into another Linux box on my network and then ssh from that box to the the SuSE 10.0 box so I know it is accessible with my user credentials using ssh externally. Attempting to use access the 10.0 box directly, using putty.exe, if I use v1 (default), I get the login prompt okay but I can't authenticate with my password. If I use v2, putty.exe crashes badly... End of story at that point.
Well, that is clearly a bug in putty then, because no client program of any protocol should ever crash no matter what the server ever does You really need to use protocol version 2, and you usually need to set putty to use "keyboard authentication" in order to connect with a suse machine >= 9.x
