I have had a request to set up a new Closed Group's Intranet. Not having done this for a few years, and never with a Linux only system, i'm asking for help and ideas please. My supplied Hardware is as below and I think the software ideas meet their requirements (they like the idea of Linux having read some of Fred's Mails I've been passing on). I've yet to get them to seriously think of Linux on the desktop (one step at a time). Any initial comments please? Have I missed out any serious item, as the group will, if it works, move from the site to another and allow the current bays they are using to be used for new staff. Any replies through the list please. thanks scsijon ---------- Backbone S: 100baseT UTP through Switch Hubs (existing) approx 20 users running a support desk type function. --------- 100baseT LAN A: connects to Backbone S via Firewall & DHCP Machine, User Login and Data Server, Mail Server, Apache Server (user access side via ssl), (proposed Firewall machine when found necessary to the site's existing Network) = 5 ports used 3 free 1000baseT LAN B: Connects Userserver, Apache Server, Dataserver (Oracle at this stage), Backup Server = 4 ports used 1 free All user traffic to LAN A only.
