Thanks to your help out there (I forget who) I can now use VNC to linkt to my SuSE laptop from my XP desktop. I cannot use RDC to connect to my laptop, however. (I can use both VNC:// and RDC:// to connect from my laptop out.)
RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) is a M$ specific protocol. You can only use it to see remote windows. There is no RDP server for linux, so you cannot use RDP to see a linux desktop
Ahh, that makes sense, thanks! <snip>
Will this mess up my settings if I do something wierd while remotely connected then do something from the console?
"Doing something weird" is very broad term 8-)! But you should not have any problems as long as you do not sign on 2 as the same user (KDE used to have problems with that, and I haven't tested the fixes they implemented yet). Even if you do log in twice as the same user, I would not expect you to have problems beyond the fact that the last one to save the configurations overwrites any preveous versions, much like editing a file twice: the last "edit" to save a file, overwrites any preveous changes...
Well, I only have two users on the system - kai and root. I logged in as "kai". I did try to "shut down" from the VNC connection but nothing happened on the laptop. -- kai www.perfectreign.com linux - genuine windows replacement part
