I specified /dev/sda5 /media/MR_NTFS subfs ro,uid=667,gid=667,umask=0002,nls=utf8 0 0 in /etc/fstab but this setting didn't have any effect.
I don't know if it will work but perhaps try setting
that way it will readable (and writable if you dare and have the right software) by all users.
Note that the automatically launched /bin/mount command completely ignores the setting in /etc/fstab. Thus setting umask=000 wouldn't help. There 2 more questions then: - Do I have to manually remind a process that /etc/fstab has been changed? - How can I simulate the unplugging and plugging of the USB disk via a command? (The disk is connected to a machine which is 20 minutes of walk away ...) Using for instance # umount /media/MR_NTFS # OK # mount /media/MR_NTFS # OK, but /media/MR_NTFS is empty doesn't work. It somehow breaks submount. -- A.M.
