The kid obviously doesn't have KDE installed or it would show up. Or he broke something, either way, install, restart X, use.
Was it obvious to you? It wasn't to me. If something was broken, an uninstall and reinstall sounds like a good recommendation. If wasn't loaded in the first then he'll notice there is nothing to uninstall and continue with the install.
If there isn't anything broken meaning he didn't toy with it and it's not ....
