hello list,
I changed to Suse 9.3 and KDE 3.4.2 and now I am encountering problems with my dvd rom.
When I put in a CD or DVD it is not recognized by the system. Whe When i try to mount it, I get following messages. thomas@Bart:~> mount /media/dvd/ mount: only root can mount /dev/dvd on /media/dvd thomas@Bart:~> Why is it not allowed to mount a dvd as user?? What about automount? When I use ripit to rip my cd collection it is working sometimes, meaning I can rip one CD and then it stops working (CD won't start turning in the dvd). Sometimes it doesn't work at all.
I don't get the "only root" message, but I'm having other problems with DVD-ROM. Maybe related? Initially, it was the YaST "Change Source of Installation" that would not work for DVD unless I cleared everything out of there and added in a new DVD entry. Then, it would not accept a new DVD entry, complaining that there was no installation info on the inserted DVD. At least, I still had the automount icon on the desktop "SU930.001" which I could click and get a Konq session to view it. Now even that is sporadic. I'm sure the DVD is ok because I installed the system from it twice, with no problem. I've handled it properly and there are no scratches or other marks on it. Here is my fstab: /dev/hda3 / ext3 acl,user_xattr 1 1 /dev/hda1 /boot ext3 acl,user_xattr 1 2 /dev/hdb3 /home ext3 defaults 1 2 /dev/hdb2 /var ext3 acl,user_xattr 1 2 /dev/hda2 /windows/C vfat defaults 0 0 /dev/hdb1 swap swap pri=42 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0 proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0 sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0 /dev/dvdrecorder /media/dvd subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,user,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0 /dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0 /dev/dvdrecorder /media/dvdrecorder subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,user,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0 /dev/fd0 /media/floppy subfs noauto,fs=floppyfss, procuid, nodev, nosuid, sync 0 0 I'm hoping it's some simple config thing. But what? Kevin
