You might want to rephrase the question, since most installs are either from CD/DVD or from ftp. How are you going about installation from a HDD? I am confused. You just point your installer to where your sources are - harddisk, network, CD, ftp etc. I always install from harddisk over NFS.

Can you clarify that?
I have a machine with no CD/DVD. (It does have a floppy). (No free drive bays.)
I have YOU setup to download from a SuSE FTP mirror.
It is still running SuSE 9.2 simply because I don't know of an easy way to upgrade it and for now it is not a major issue for me.
(I know I can boot to floppy, then point to the FTP server. I've dont that befreo, but I'm lazy and am looking for an easier solution. I also assume I could buy a USB CD/DVD and boot the normal CDs from there.)
There are instructions in the Admin guide for creating an install server etc. You just copy the DVD contents or ISOs to the hard drive and boot from the floppy. You then tell the install program to do a hard drive install and the location of the files.
