There were some discussions in the list about how to set the permissions of the devices, when a user logs in. I tried site:lists.suse.com Permissions Devices and got back a BUNCH of emails! this also fixed another problem I had, with my USB camera not showing up. I createda mount point, mounted /dev/sdb1 and now I have my camera back!! but no luck with the mplayer issue (yet)..
