Um... I'm still working out the kinks in this myself, but I've been able to do it using the 'iwconfig' command. Usually 'iwconfig ethX ap <essid>.' The 'iwlist' command shows APs within range. *My* problem, so far, has been getting the AP's DHCP server to assign me an IP address. It works at home, and at a friend's house, on local WLANs, but at public APs like Kinko's, Borders, and various hotels, iwconfig shows me as being associated with the right AP, but I never get an IP address. And since I travel 6-8months/year with this laptop, this is very frustrating.
Yes......that problem is also true for this particular laptop. Obviously, there needs to be more work done on getting wireless to work more reliably, and better software in KDE.
