I'm running KDE 3.4.0b built by SuSE. I've been trying to get the search index in the KDE Help Center to work for susehelp. No matter if I try to run it as a normal user, or as root, it will not let me build the index database. There _is_ an index database at /var/cache/susehelp/. AAMOF, there are several index dbs there. This is the default location KDE Help Center points to when its run in the SuSE distribution. I really don't understand why the SuSE Help tools have consistently been broken. They are very nice tools, when they work.
Does anybody know how to get this to work?
I'll find out in a few days, but I'd like to know now while my observations are still fresh in my mind. Is this working on 9.3? The susehelp setup on my box is clearly broken in many ways. I'd like to file a bug report and investigate further if this has not already been addressed. -- Regards, Steven
Running correctly on my 9.3 stock install.

Are you using the KDE Help Center widget, or a web browser, or both to view your help? Is there a /var/cache/susehelp/suselinux-adminguide.en.words.db on your box? What does your /var/cache/susehelp/suselinuxadminguideen.conf look like? Mine looks like this: # htdig configuration for doc 'suselinux-adminguide.en' # # This file has been automatically created by the SuSE help system. common_dir: /usr/share/susehelp/htdig/en locale: en database_dir: /var/cache/susehelp local_urls: http://localhost= local_urls_only: true limit_urls_to: http://localhost ignore_noindex: true max_hop_count: 4 robotstxt_name: susedig compression_level: 6 template_map: Long long /usr/share/susehelp/htdig/long.html \ Short short /usr/share/susehelp/htdig/short.html search_algorithm: exact:1 prefix:0.8 maximum_pages: 1 matches_per_page: 10 database_base: ${database_dir}/suselinux-adminguide.en start_url: http://localhost//usr/share/doc/packages/suselinux-adminguide_en/html/index.... # for pdf-files max_doc_size: 5000000 external_parsers: application/pdf /usr/share/doc/packages/htdig/contrib/parse_doc.pl \ application/postscript /usr/share/doc/packages/htdig/contrib/parse_doc.pl #external_parsers: text/docbook /build/htdig/parser It's pointing to the wrong place to find the suselinux-adminguide_en. -- Regards, Steven
