Don't use ide-scsi with the latest 9.2. It is now part of
mount or whatever. It seems to be automatically found.
Just the normally device name like /dev/hdc and not /dec/sr0.

Hi all,
I have updated a suse8 server to 9.2 (reinstalled, and put data and users back on). I am having trouble to get a IDE-tapedrive recognised and working. This is a OnStream ADR-drive, it is hdd and seen at boot:
7>Probing IDE interface ide0... <4>hda: CRD-8400B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive <4>ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14 <7>Probing IDE interface ide1... <7>ide1: Wait for ready failed before probe ! <4>hdd: OnStream DI-30, ATAPI TAPE drive <4>ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15
On suse8 I can remember I did it with ide-scsi module. In grub I appended hdd=ide-scsi. Arkeia light is installed for backup, and if I try to get to the tape, I see this in /var/log/messages:
Apr 1 14:08:34 linux kernel: osst :I: Tape driver with OnStream support version 0.99.1 Apr 1 14:08:34 linux kernel: osst :I: $Id: osst.c,v 1.70 2003/12/23 14:22:12 wr iede Exp $
Still, I am not able to see tapes. mt -f status /dev/osst0 gives: mt: invalid tape operation `/dev/osst0'
lsmod shows no ide_scsi module, and I cannot find anything like ide_scsi on the machine too. How do I get this baby working in SuSE9.2??
First of all, you have the command backwards. -f expects a tape device, and 'status' isn't a device :)
Have you tried simply
mt -f /dev/hdd status
that's a hit....
linux:/opt/arkeia/bin # mt -f /dev/osst0 status mt: /dev/osst0: No such device or address linux:/opt/arkeia/bin # mt -f /dev/hdd status mt: /dev/hdd: No such device or address linux:/opt/arkeia/bin # mt -f /dev/ht0 status Segmentation fault
Oops..
Found out in the meantime, that before I added hdd=ide-scsi, ht0 gave messages while booting. So removed hdd= in the grub menu.lst and rebooted machine. Now when i do: linux:/var/log # mt -f /dev/ht0 status mt: /dev/ht0: Input/output error
In /var/log/messages: Apr 1 19:00:16 linux kernel: osst :I: Tape driver with OnStream support version 0.99.1 Apr 1 19:00:16 linux kernel: osst :I: $Id: osst.c,v 1.70 2003/12/23 14:22:12 wriede Exp $ Apr 1 19:00:26 linux kernel: module ide_tape unsupported by SUSE/Novell, tainting kernel. Gives I/O error? What to do with this?
