while the topic of sound and sound cards has come up, I am looking at getting a Creative Labs USB Sound Blaster Live! Model# SB0490.
I checked the SuSE hardware support database, and it is unlisted, has anyone tried to use one of these with SuSE? does it work? I believe it is almost the same as the SB Live! 5.1, so I would think it would work, but just wondering if anyone has tried.
thanks,

I use the SoundBlaster MP3+ and works well except that there is no "record sound" working which means it does not work with Skype. Just plug it in and go, no need to setup in YaST, can't anyway as YaST complains that it can't load a module.
YMMV
I thought I had fixed my sound problems with my SB Live! 5.1, Skype, Rosegarden, Audacity. Etc, but I was wrong: at the moment Rosegarden does not start, qjackctl behaves oddly and I am out of answers and have used all my patience. Hair I still have some left, to pluck out. [ <rant> ] I don't mind working with things to get them running, but trying to get the sound working has been a ridiculous effort that have involved sitting up and browsing newsgroups & files endlessly. There's a *big* difference between "having to think and read a bit", and having to waste days and nights on end for getting just basic functions out of a sound card. Hearing the test sound has not been a problem, (apart from the midi test sound) but using the soundcard for anything useful certainly has. So I really can't recommend this or that, as this seems to an area for specialists rather than for an "end user". You get one thing working and that ruins the other one, and vice versa. (But still, I don't fancy going back to Windows; better to be an angry freedman than a placid slave..) if I knew there was a 100% foolproof soundcard, I'd go and buy it - but I guess there isn't. </rant> Look for threads with words like mic, artsd and skype in this newsgroup.
