Failing this then I need to try and fix X.
It quite possibly might not be X playing up but is just suffering. As part of the upgrade I upgraded the kernel but didn't prepare the boot loader with this news, so I've spent a little while fixing that, and, in the process, re-installed the X server from the DVD. This hasn't helped and the machine still locks up, leaving the mouse cursor moving but not accepting any input. ssh'ing into the machine shows Xorg running at + 99% cpu usage. My default wm is KDE but this behaviour has also happened with Windowmaker, which I tried as a test. What does seem stable is running my applications over 'ssh -X', I write this in kmail in a session thats been up all day. Are there any clues in this? I need help with where to look further so I can figure out what the problem is and get working on a solution. Thanks in advance. -- Colin Murphy, a man for all seasons, especially pepper.
