You apparently don't live in the lightning capital of the world, as I do, where power problems eat everything, including expensive UPS units. For the small extra a model with a warranty may cost, it's really a no brainer to go for the long warranty rather than excessively risk yet another difficult troubleshooting problem to get through. -- "Love your neighbor as yourself."
