Hello everyone,
For CAD/CAM purpose, I'm assessing a Dell Ultrasharp 2405FPW monitor, which is a 24" WUXGA 1620x1200 LCD. I have seen some discussions about Linux issues on the web, and I am not sure if it will work properly. I searched Suse's hardware database, but didn't find support for widescreen LCDs from Dell, model 2005FPW or 2405FPW.
How interesting that you should ask just now. I spent several hours yesterday getting my new ViewSonic VP201b installed, configured and all the various font settings reset to suit it. Basically, everything went pretty smoothly. The "Reprobe" button in YaST's "Graphics card and monitor" (YaST2 Hardware) properly detected the make and model of the monitor. I had to manually configure the 1600x1200 32-bit (or maybe it was 24) color. I also narrowed the range of vertical scan frequencies to reflect the recommended scan frequency for this display. After confirming the new monitor configuration, I experienced the symptom in which the display manager is switched from kdm to xdm. The same fix specified for the bug when it occurs in the 9.2 -> 9.3 upgrade fixes this instance. I had a well crafted set of font configurations for KDE and various applications that include their own font control options. Absolutely none of it was any good with the WUXA LCD monitor. I spent hours getting it all right, but it was worth it. This is great display.

Any suggestions regarding proper video card and possibly knowledge or expectiations of Suse 9.3/Xorg support for this wide LCD are welcome.
