After adding localhost to the access crontrol list ... greeted with this error message: Error importing gtk: could not open display
"xhost +localhost" stopped working for me after upgrading SuSE from 8.0 to 9.2 I guess this is some difference between xfree and xorg, or maybe it's the "-nolisten tcp" option in startx.
