Gil,
I didn't catch this thread from the very beginning and not all of my questions have been answered. Would you mind bringing me up to speed directly?
- - SuSE version? - - MozillaFirefox version? - - Where did you get the package? - - How did you install it? - - What multimedia players & plug-ins do you have installed? - - What versions? - - Where did you get them? - - How installed?
SuSE version 9.2 pro -- clean install (wiped drive first) Firefox version 1.0 Package came from firefox website Installed into home directory from an installer executable Kaffeine is installed and plays certain formats -- for example .mpgs. However, other video formats won't play using Kaffeine as I don't have all the proper codecs installed. For example, .avi files will play the audio only, but no video. And .mov and .wmv files will not play at all. Kaffeine opens but I am apparently missing some necessary plug-ins. Kaffeine version is 0.4.3b Kaffeine was installed from the SuSE DVD
As I posted earlier, my version of SuSE's MozillaFirefox jumped from 1.0-2.1 to 1.0-6.1 yesterday due to some security patches. The directory I downloaded the rpm from is:
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/update/9.2/rpm/i586/
The full package rpm name is: MozillaFirefox-1.0-6.1.i586.rpm
I'm thinking that you might have better luck just removing the version that isn't working, downloading the one I used from SuSE that /works/ and installing it with YaST.
This sounds as if it might be a very good idea. I will try this and report the results. I will also try to get all of the codecs from pacman. I used to be able to do all of this very easily when I had SuSE 9.1 and Red Carpet. But I have not yet found the secret to getting Red Carpet to work using 9.2. Thanks for your help. Gil
