Are there any special considerations when I should install SuSE 9.2 as a VM in VMware GSX 3.1?
I have noted that in V4.0 I needed to disable acceleration for the VM for SuSE, otherwise it would fubar :)
Yeah.. I disabled acceleration as well, then I tried to install 9.2 with ACPI=OFF, still a dead hang. The computer needs a hard reset.
Any more ideas? Anders.
Just one shot out of the dark: you could try to disable automount for the DVD on the host system. It might be that the host system is already claiming exclusive access to the dvd and is blocking vmware.

Automounting IS diabled. Anyway, I'm installing from ISO-file as the DVD in the VMware VM. So the physical DVD isn't even involved. The installation is made in SuSE's Text Mode, it goes as far as checking off the system, the software selection, and then it halts. The vmware.log file contains the following just as it dies: Feb 16 15:04:12: mks| VNCENCODE 1 encoding mode change: (720x400x16depth,16bpp) Feb 16 15:04:13: vcpu-0| SVGA: Unregistering IOSpace at 0x1400 (0x1400) Feb 16 15:04:13: vcpu-0| SVGA: Registering IOSpace at 0xfff0 (0x0000) Feb 16 15:04:13: vcpu-0| SVGA: Unregistering IOSpace at 0xfff0 (0xfff0) Feb 16 15:04:13: vcpu-0| SVGA: Registering IOSpace at 0x1400 (0x0000) Feb 16 15:04:18: vcpu-0| VIDE: (0x1f0) OUTB Cmd of 0xa1 for non-existent drive 1 Feb 16 15:04:18: vcpu-0| VIDE: (0x1f0) OUTB Cmd of 0xa1 for non-existent drive 1 Feb 16 15:04:19: vcpu-0| VIDE: Curr CHS info cyls: 17475 heads: 15 sects: 63 lba_cap: 25165824 Feb 16 15:04:24: vcpu-0| SCSI0: RESET BUS Feb 16 15:05:47: mks| MKS set guest selection request with invalid state 2
