Anders,
Uh oh... The long startup and the 1783 error usually indicates a failed controller. (at least it has for me...)
You can try reseating the cache module, reseating the card, or booting with no SCSI cable attached, but if you get the 1783 error, most likely it's a bad controller. I've heard you can sometimes reflash the ROM to bring it back to life, otherwise it's:
Smart Array 3200 Controller spare: 340855-001 64 Meg Cache Module Spare Part: 340915-001 or SA3200 controller Option Part Number 295643-B21 (this is the whole controller)
You can get a used one from serverworlds.com for pretty cheap. Call and ask for Knut ("kuh-NOOT").
Hope this helps... Mark
Mark, Dave, Carl... I've tried to swap sub-cards and batteries from three different controllers, all presents me with the same error. Batteries are fine, I've also reseated all socketed chips, no luck. When I surf the HP forums, it strikes me that there are LOTS of "1783 3200 controllers" out there. Seems to be a family sickness in that series. I'll do some more testing, even buy a couple of "new" controllers to play with. Thanks anyway! Anders.
