Hello,
I am loading up 9.2 Pro on a Compaq DL380 dual P111 1GHz and wondering where to find the correct SMP kernel ?
Thanks, Dee
3 days ago I installed 9.2 on a dual machine. It just picked the right SMP kernel, no special care.
Cheers Sunny
Sure wished it worked like that on this one :-( SuSE 9.2 Pro is saying it's not a SMP motherboard, which is in-correct.
Of course this is an older unit, but is working just fine except for the other CPU not being recognized. ------------------------------- SMP motherboard not detected. Brought up 1 CPUs -------------------------------
Still trying to figure out what's wrong here ?

This is not uncommon if you did not SmartStart the server before attempting to install the OS.
I did SmartStart the server though :-) Any other ideas ?

Hi Dee, Last time I installed on a comparable machine we had to choose correctly the OS to be installed. As I recall, the default OS selection SmartStart picked was not correct. We had to choose "SCO UNIX" to get the second processor visible to SuSE. Gave us a bit of a laugh... There was a tech article on Compaq's web site that took us a while to find; I don't have the link anymore I'm afraid... Hi Leo, SmartStart is a bootable CDROM used Compaq and now HP to initialize (and update if necessary) the BIOS, firmware and other hardware installed on a server prior to the operating system being installed. A SmartStart CDROM can also be used to start/complete an operating system install. Every new Compaq/hp server comes with a SmartStart CDROM. If yours has gone missing, you can order a replacement for about $25 direct from hp; it's sold as a subscription (you'll buy just a single subscription, instead of annual subscription). If you have a server that's older than two years or so, check with hp before ordering; the latest SmartStart CDROMS no longer include support for older servers. Hope that helps, Mark -- _______________________________________________________________ A Message From... L.
