I just ordered "SuSE Linux Professional 9.2 Upgrade [Strong Encryption 128 Bit]" without noticing that word "Upgrade" in the title. Am I going to have trouble jumping directly from SuSE 7.3 all the way to 9.2? What's the difference between the "Upgrade" version and the non-Upgrade? Is something missing from the Upgrade CDs?
The diference with the upgrade version is only it has less paper manuals; otherwise, it is the same. As for trying to upgrade the system... it may work, it might not; many things have changed. If it does work, you will still have to manually tweak a lot of configuration files, but yast should tell you which, via email to root. I would try it, just to learn if it works ;-) But, this is very important, make a full backup before starting. At least, save all you personal files and those you can not afford to loose, and all configuration files for your reference when configuring it later. With the backup, there is no problem if the update fails, you loose nothing. And even if you are going to install as new, the backup comes handy, specially if 9.2 doesn't work for you. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
