Well a little more specific please ..... one that would interest me was the

Promise SATA (I) 150 TX4 ( have a SATA II 150 TX4 and that one doesn't work with SuSE 9.2 as a "regular" storagecontroller with SATA I drives)

Well I do and it doesn't work with SuSE 9.2. I've seen some comments that suggest that it shouldn't be that big a thing for the developpers to make at linux-ide.org to make them usable with "ordinary" SATA features. Search "sata status" (on www.kerneltrap.org)

Where I am having problems is with combinations.

For instance, I have a Intel P4 machine that I would like to have Motherboard IDE, Motherboard SATA, and a PCI SIIG card working all at once. So far no luck.

Would be nice to know what motherboard for qualified replies to that ;-)

It is a D865GVHZ running Bios BF86510A.86A.0061.P17

If I go into bios and disable SATA, then it works, or if I pull out the SIIG card it works.

With both in, I cannot even boot the live CD.

For the above, it seems confusion arises from what /dev/hda, etc. refers to as the booting process progresses.

I have another machine (P3) that goes into an infinite loop of printing to the console if I have the exact same SIIG card in it.

For that machine, I can get it to boot if I use an older SIIG card, but then it locks up when I try to access a drive connected to it.

I'm about to try a kernel of the day to see if it works any better.

I actually tried the latest YOU kernel on this machine. It seems to be working so far.

I'm reading in a large tape now to see how it does. I was totally unable to use the SIIG connected drives with the kernel on the 9.2 CDs, so this is a big step forward.
