It sounds like a corrupted rpm database. Try rpm --rebuilddb

Hi Dave, You may have a situation I see often. A 'pop-up' dialog box has "popped-UNDER" other windows, waiting for input, but unseen. Look around, see if there is an unsatisfied request for input. Move or minimimize the windows you can see to find out. This hits me several times a day. I know of no way to change or fix this; you just have to remember to look around.
