Hi All,
Thanks to Sid Boyce, I can now get a remote full desktop login as follows:
Using X :2 -query audio vt09 console 9 brings up the login screen for machine audio on the local machine (scooby, for the sake of it.) Now, I have set up the user music on audio for passwordless login and automatic login. These work as expected when the machine is booted, or at local manual login at audio. When the remote login screen is started on scooby with the above command, the automatic login doesn't happen and a password is still required.
Is there a way to get the remote connection to automatically login? Yes, I know it's insecure, but the machine is only there to play music, and has no route to the wild.
Cheers
Dylan
The pleasure is all mine. I've used it to manage multiple machines including a number of Solaris partitions on large servers from my laptop, an excellent demo to show the beauty of Linux to colleagues and Solaris admins, they'd need to logoff one and logon to the other or use a number of Solaris/Windows boxes, though I believe you can do it using XFree86 for Windows. Also teaching hardware classes, I could flip from PowerPoint presentation using OpenOffice.org to the real server they would be using in the lab. Control Center --> System Administration --> Login manager is worth a try by setting password-less login. It doesn't work directly after that, so it may require restarting kdm, if you are using KDE, I believe there is also an equivalent in gnome. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ....
