Hi, I take it that you have followed the SuSE-specific instructions for compiling the Nvidia drivers under 2.6.X kernels? Before you install the nvidia drivers, you should cd /usr/src/'linux' <- or whatever your kernel is called, then type make cloneconfig make prepare-all then you should run the nvidia-installer with the path to the kernel source specified as an argument, I think it is something like --kernel-src-path=/usr/src/'linux', but check on the nvidia's website there's a link to SuSE related instructions Hope this helps, Jon. ---- Jonathan Brooks (Ph.D.) Research Assistant Pain Group, Department of Human Anatomy and Genetics University of Oxford, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QX Tel: +44 (0)1865 282675 Fax: +44 (0)1865 272183 -----Original Message----- From: Steven Pasternak [mailto:stevenp500@bellsouth.net] Sent: 02 October 2004 18:56 To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] Kernel 2.6.8.1 (Vanilla) Won't Work With X/KDE or NVIDIA I just compiled Kernel 2.6.8.1 (Vanilla) and fixed subfs. I can live without 'splash', but not without X/KDE or the NVIDIA driver. The NVIDIA Driver won't recompile (I use 1.0-6111); saying it has no precompiled kernel interface. KDM won't even start. I use SuSE 9.1.
