I've had that problem in the past as well Fred. I read a few threads on the list here, and one of them mentioned that you need to fire up xcdroast as root and configure both the device, and user access. It's worked for me as a normal user after having done that.
'Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. :) It really depends on if Yast feels like doing the install correctly that day on that hardware. Once done, I may or may not get XCDRoast to work as a user.
