Sounds like a malformed piece of mail on the mail server caused Eudora to choke. That's not an uncommon occurrence and I would say it is unlikely that your mail client was an intentional target. It's more likely that it choked on one of the many many malformed pieces of spam that break just about all of the mail rfcs.
