I've been anount Linux for a few years, but I'm new to SUSE 9.1 and the 2.6
kernel, so bear with me.
I have a multi-bay firewire enclosure containing 4 oxford 911
firewire-to-ide bridges (the enclosure is capable of supporting a total of 8
IDE drives). I'm running SUSE 9.1 with the 2.6.5-7 kernel. I've updated to
the latest patches through YOU. I'm having trouble with Linux being able to
detect both IDE drives (master and slave) connected to one of the bridges in
the enclosure. I am seeing the following behavior:
- when I have one drive plugged in as a master, it is detected just fine,
- when I have one drive plugged in as a slave, it is detected just fine
- when I plug in both master and slave drives, only the slave is detected
- when I plug in 5 drives (4 master and 1 slave), it only sees a total of 4
drives (3 master and 1 slave). The master it doesn't see is the one that is
plugged into the bridge that also has a slave drive
When I boot up my old configuration (Redhat 9.0 with 2.4.27 kernel), the
drives are recognized just fine (after running rescan-scsi-bus.sh). As I
understand the 2.6. kernel, I do not need to run rescan-scsi-bus.sh as the
scsi devices are set up automatically.
When I boot up SUSE 9.1, I see the following syslog entries:
