Did you configure the syslog daemon to accept data from the network? You can configure this on /etc/sysconfig/syslog. Edit the parameter there from:
SYSLOGD_PARAMS="" (the default..no parametes) to SYSLOGD_PARAMS="-r"
restart syslog then...

Been there, done that, and lots of other pages. No joy. The -r switch did the trick although I'm still searching docs to find out why. 13 years of using Winblows doesn't change overnight..... thanks, just bought my first Linux apps over the weekend. -Jeff
