If it is hanging you should have a kernel oops in your /var/log/messages showing the lvm_mod as the culprit. I have done this many times and even after a reboot there is still no way to clean up the snapshots. I am having similar and other serious problems with LVM both regular use of filesystems and Snapshots: 2.4.21-215-smp on SUSE SLES8 We thought it might be getting caused by using the CA eTrust product but seeing your email changes my assumption. We have an open PMR with IBM on this issue and I will forward your email to them to see if it can help. Using the C code below both us and IBM were able to make the problem appear with regular frequency in our lab while doing parallel reads from either the snapshots and/or files on the LVM partitions. int main() { while( 1 ) chdir( "/" ); } and in some cases the error was catastrophic and forced us to reinstall and restore from backup. Please note, we are only testing READS from the filesystem and Oracle from known file contents and getting errors. We have not yet checked to see if we are getting corrupted writes. Does anyone hav a problem using LVM under SuSE 9.0 with all updates installed (Kernel 2.4.21-231)? I can't do a vgscan or remove existing snapshots anymore. The programs just hang endless...
Thanx Hermann
After an upgrade to 2.4.21-238 the behaviour didn't change... Anyone out there, who has similar problems?
Thanx Hermann
