Locked up.
I tried control-alt-F2 and everything locked up. I had to reboot.
Now you confuse me. Did you follow my instructions to boot into runlevel 3?

Ah, so my feeling was right... ;)
I tried to switch to a different runlevel to shut down....when I tried to switch my system locked up on me.
The command to shutdown is:
shutdown -h now
