GREAT NEWS FOR 4115 OWNERS!! By upgrading your bios to KAM1.25, SuSE 9.1 will now boot and install. BUT the trackpad tapping doesn't work initially, just like for Compaq. After the install fire up sax2 and select the synaptics driver and you should be in business. Richard On Saturday 14 August 2004 03:48 pm, Chris Wilson wrote:
I have a ze4125 and have the same problem. I've tried every bootable disk and only get the welcome screen. This was also the case with 9.0. I was able to install that however over after coping the files to my server and booting with 8.2 net-install cd (the last suse that hase worked for me) and installing over nfs. I explained that in detail in a post about a year ago. This procedure doesn't work with 9.1 however. I always get an error about not finding keyboard and it hangs.
I also tried to do the update thingy in yast but after you do that your system is recognized as 9.0 and not 9.1 (you get no updates for 9.1). After a little googling i found a "fix" for that from suse. They explain that this happens when you upgrade from a running and to avoid this you should but your system from the upgrades boot cd. Well, that helps alot. I tried playing around with the version data that is buried somewhere but to no avail.
In short, I had no luck.
Fedora Core 2 works nicely but I as soon as I get a suse version that boots I'll be doing a reformat.
These laptops are really common and it worked before!!
PS. Linare, Xandros and some versions of Knoppix also don't boot.

Has anyone been successful installing any SuSE version to the hp ze4115 laptop? I have tried to use the cds, dvd, boot iso cd, and the 9.1 ftp boot install. Not one will go past the first welcome splash screen. The cd seems to unmount and the keyboard is dead. Only and power off will do anything.
Knoppix will boot and play, Debian will boot and play, but no SuSE! I would really like to instal SuSE 9.1 cause I'm most familiar with it. Is there any finger magic that I can try to get it to boot to do an install? Since it never gets to the screen where I can disable anything I'm at a loss. TIA Richard
