As such we do not need to load the driver before starting the network service. However, if its not working then a little manual work may be required to get things right. First of all, r u sure that the module you mentioned is the correct one for your network card. Perhaps u could use Yast to check that out. If it is the correct driver, then use lsmod to see whether the driver is loaded or not. If not, then try loading the driver manually by using insmod bmc5700 (assuming that this is the correct module for your card) before u start ur network service. Check again using lsmod. If the above does not work check for error messages in your /var/log/messages. Hope this helps. -Rahul

07/01 2:56 pm >>> Hi,
/etc/init.d/network start won't load the network driver in SuSE9. Though I have entries like 'alias eth0 bcm5700' in my /etc/modprobe.conf or /etc/modprobe.conf.local file, still it doesn't load. What's the way for this ? Do we really need to load the driver before we start the network. thanks, Anil
