Any overclocking going on? It sounds to me a little like the memory on the video is getting scrambled. Heat issue? This is something that I did experience perhaps on a couple of occasions on Mandrake (with both a different video card and monitor, but otherwise the same hardware) -- but really probably only oncee or twice in a couple of years. Since moving to SUSE 9.1, this happens sometimes as much as a couple of times per day. I can't link it with any particular event, and /var/log/messages doesn't seem to tell my anything. First, my hardware. Generic AMD Ahtlon system with 256MB of RAM. I'm now working with a Voodoo3 and a Nokia monitor. As I say, this issue isn't unique to this video card and monitor. So what happens essentially is that the display suddenly dies. I don't even know how to explain it, and I can't send a screenshot to explain what I'm talking about. Everything suddenly becomes almost blurry, and anything new painted to the screen isn't written properly. Almost like it's translucent. And no scrolling works. Some text doesn't display at all. And window controls die. And sometimes I can random lines or dots in various places on the screen appear. Othertimes the mouse and keyboard both die so I have no choice but to hard reboot the system (though it is still pingable, and I could connect via ssh from another computer to restart it if I were so inclined). For the most part, I have to bring down X-windows by doing CTRL-ALT-F10. But the console display is even screwed up, and so I have to do a soft reset. I've tried searching Google and such, but it's hard to find anything because I don't know how to concisely explain the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's starting to drive me crazy!
