Hi, I'm trying to make SuSE 9.0 working with my new PC, but I've still a problem with the graphic card, a Nvidia GeForce FX5700. I tried the suggested installing procedure for the nvidia drivers, that is, via the Yast Online Update (YOU), but the computer hangs during the starting procedure of KDE. Then I tried to download the latest version of the driver and install it manually (i.e. via the .run package provided by Nvidia). Just before starting the installation, however, the script warns that the kernel installed in my PC was configured and compiled to include the rivafb support as a loadable kernel module, and that it conflicts with the nvidia drivers, so that it cannot function properly when this module is loaded. So, it seems I found the reason why the driver didn't work, but what can I do now? 1) should I try to build the drivers anyway, and to test them without loading the rivafb module? (but how could I do this? maybe editing the modules.conf file?) 2) should I try to rebuild the kernel getting rid of the rivafb module? (but why this was inserted into the kernel configuration? maybe it is needed in some cases e.g. when yast2 is called?) Any suggestion is welcome, thanks in advance. Alberto Vecchiato
