I'm a Linux newbie (used some UNIX before) and want to set up an old Compaq Deskpro 2000 with SuSE Linux. I'm trying the Live Eval software. 9.1 fails with an out of memory (needs 256MB RAM, I only have 128), so I tried 9.0 Live Eval. So far, Linux itself boots OK from the live eval CD and I can login as root, but xdm, cron and a bunch of other processes fail, mainly with input/output errors or bus errors. I've tried pci=noacpi and acpi=off boot options to no avail. Has anyone tried SuSE on this model deskpro, or does anyone know how I could find out if it's capable of running it? I have Win2K on there at the moment, and don't want to wipe it out until I have a reasonable idea that SuSE will work. I'm not sure if this problem is specifically with the live eval version or not. Thanks in advance. Dave Koppe
