If so: please, please, please, please let me have a look at your configuration files, because what was so easy with 8.2 has not been successful after trying for almost a week in 9.1 sofar. Any hints would be welcome at this time.
Same here. I have preserved firewall settings, samba settings are almost the same as in 2.8.x, but user from windoze machine simply cannot connect to share. Some problem with password encryption?
Ok, that turned out to be easy... I tried to have the accounts be guest browsable (nice, no password on my LAN at home), but totally forgot to see if a guest user (falls under the 'other' category in UNIX permissions) actually had access to the shared directory path. A directory higher in the hierarchy was set to drwx------, so guest could not get into it. I just managed to connect to my new SuSE 9.1 Samba server's movie directory from a Windows 98 client. :) Ain, if you're still having trouble, just let me know what you're trying to set up, and if the above hints were helpful in making that work. I'll see if I can help you get it to work too. :) A happy camper, Pieter Hulshoff
