So far, I have only setup a single workstation as a general-purpose machine. Now that I have multiple systems to work with, I want to use the client-server approach to make good use of my resources. I'm using SUSE 8.0 on 3 or 4 machines. I'll upgrade when possible, but cannot right now. I just want to make sure I understand the overall process right now. I will setup my server as a general-purpose server, offering file/print, web, and MySQL server. I assume I'll need to export /usr/local and a few other dirs on the server. I assume I can simply setup the workstations to use the NFS shares, thus avoiding the need to install programs like OpenOffice.org on each machine. Is that correct? When I run OOo for the first time on the clients, they should use the remote /usr/local to run the OOo setup. Does that apply to most otehr programs as well - for instance, The Gimp?
