Hello again all,
I am trying to run the remote desktop server on a machine that I am using primarily just as a web/file server. I already have it setup to accept connections anonymously (think that is it, its set so it don't have to keep sending an invitation to myself) and when I first boot the server everything works fine.
When I close the vnc client on my other computer (windows xp for the moment) and then restart it later (no matter how much time elapses) the vnc server on the linux machine crashes. When I hook a monitor up to it, it shows the KDE Crash Handler and says:
The application Desktop Sharing (krfb) has caused and caused the signal 11.
The only way I have found so far to reset everything and get it back working for one more time is to reboot the server.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Server is currently running suse 9.0 and kde3.
Many thanks in advance, IK Harrell
I had this error some time ago on a Fedora server. I fixed it by changing the vnc client being used on XP. There are several different versions (tight, real, etc.). You might want to try the xinetd vnc services instead. I use this every day for some time now without error. You would have to log in though as you would be presented with the KDM logon screen. I set mine up by going to "Yast/Network Services/Network Services (inetd)" and enabling "vnc10" and/or "vnc11". You can change the default resolutions by editing "/etc/xinetd.d/vnc". If you also enable "vnchttpd10" and/or "vnchttpd11" you will be able to use any web browser, with java support, by browsing to "http://servername:5810" and/or "http://servername:5811". Last, but not least, enable XDMCP by editing "/etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc" and run "rcxdm restart". Hope This Helps -- Louis D. Richards LDR Interactive Technologies
