I'm beginning to get this figured out, now. Thanks! I am a bit dubious as to where the sources are saved, but I had a successful 'update', it tells me.
The sources are in /var/cache/apt/archives You can backup these rpms to cd/dvd and put them back into this folder on subsequent reinstalls, it saves a hell of a lot of downloads.
That is good to know. ...And for one last item --I hope-- it seems that the DVD doesn't want to add (using apt-cdrom & switches) so I guess that means that if base pkgs are required they'll be downloaded...? I got errors when attempting to install synaptic and, when I used YaST, I discovered that the errors (i.e., will not install) were referring to pkgs on the DVD.
I'm using the following files which were obtained from http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ I think this was all that I needed.
lua-5.0-rb3.i586.rpm apt-libs-0.5.5cnc6-rb6.i586.rpm apt-0.5.5cnc6-rb6.i586.rpm synaptic_0.46-rb1_i586.rpm I now have it operational... and thank you for all your input.
Now, how does one add the base pkg database to the sources?? - -- ...CH Avoid doing business with 'The Link' ISP.
