----------------------- I counted 1001, 1002, 1003, 1004, etc. while the file is opening and it takes Linux much longer. win took about 1-2 secs to open a text file, linux takes 4-8 secs to open a similar file. the same is true for the start menu in linux, opening file manager, everything. It is not like i am comparing a Win box with 2 gHz to a Linux box with 200 mHz. I had win installed, i reformatted the HD, ADDED 128 ram, and installed SuSE 8.2 pro. and now everything runs slower. Does anybody know how i can squeeze more out of what i have got? thx scott
You need to post more information on your system, in general. Processor, speed, memory, hard disk ... disk layout, the output of free, no. of processes running, etc.
Generally, when you start the filemanager the first time it will take a second or two for it to load. The next time you click the filemanager, it'll pop up immediately. Iff, when you click on it, and the disks start sounding as if they're working a lot, every time you load it. It mean's the computer is swapping for some reason.
New RAM is of the same kind of the old RAM? Once I got some performance problems because I got a pair of different ram sticks (the system was WAY slower than with only one part of ram). Praise
