It undoubtedly has to do with the way you have the console set up for booting. I went through the same problems. You must have changed something between 2.6.2 and 2.6.3. I finally got it working fine.
The problem is that I copy the .config from 2.6.2 to the 2.6.3 source=20 directory, do a make menuconfig, save the file equal to 2.6.2 and the problem still remains.
It should be advisable to run make oldconfig before or your .config won't be taken into account in the different subdirectories. Michel
The video chipset is a
hwinfo --gfxcard
28: PCI 501.0: 0300 VGA compatible controller (VGA) [Created at pci.65] Unique ID: Ikk3.7IxpIoQ+NDC Parent ID: 6NW+.ccU5FZC1tz2 Hardware Class: graphics card Model: "IBM Mach64 GR"
I did see a post in the kernel mailing list I think, it said that framebuffer stuff was still not sorted. There was also a patch put out for many cards, but it did not include my FX5200, so I didn't try applying it when it was issued about early February. I've been using vga=normal with all 2.6.x kernels after playing around unsuccessfully with fbset and different vesa numbers. Regards Sid.
