Yes, running SuSE 9 Pro. I don't have any spam filters turned on and I don't think it could be my firewall because my windows machine can use yahoo messenger fine running on the same network At one point I could use yahoo and then all of a sudden it stopped. I've tried removing yahoo and reinstalling but still the same problem. Once you said something about the firewall I thought maybe it had something to do with my WiFi card but I plugged in my ehternet cable and still same problem. I'm going to have to try a few more things. On Friday 20 February 2004 19:53, Dr. David M. Colburn wrote:
Wow, that is bizzare! Any chance it is running into a SPAM filter or security app/firewall somewhere?
I tried GAIM, Everybuddy, Kopete, etc. -- all failed but have been using the Yahoo UNIX app and it works reliably.
Are you running SuSE 9 Pro?

That doesn't work for me either, It attempts to launch and then stops. Is there anywhere where this info would be stored to tell me why it's crashing?

Yahoo has repeatedly made changes to sabotage all but their own IM app.
We solved the problem by using their UNIX IM app.
I am troubled by their MS-like monopolistic thuggery but don't have time in a mission-critical app to play games with the preferred alternatives.

I have been having problems with Yahoo in Gaim almost since I started using it. I then found out that there was an update to Gaim that fixed this issue. But for some reason every time I try to connect I get an error saying unable to read. I used the latest version at usr-local-bin.org which is file:/home/ bsd/downloads/gaim-0.75-100.SuSE.ulb.3.i586.rpm but it didn't seem to fix it.
Has anyone run into the same problem?
Thanks, Ben
