Also, does anyone know where I can find 3.1.4? The mirrors don't show rpm's for suse 8.2 for that version anymore.
First, you need to set up a Yast source pointing to the 3.1.4 packages. I suggest trying ftp://ftp.leo.org/pub/suse/i386/9.0 even thought it's 9.0 and not 8.2; the 8.2 directories will take you back to 3.1.1. Do a test retrieval without actually changing anything to make sure that it works. Next, as root do "init 3" to get yourself out of X and KDE and into a text console. Next, call Yast2 in text mode. Delete all the KDE 3.2 packages you can find. Next, (while still in text mode Yast2) add back all the kde 3.1.4 packages. Also delete the contents of the /tmp directory. Now you can do an init 5 to get back into KDE. If your experience is like mine, you'll find a bunch of packages that are working badly or not at all. For each of these, try to locate the corresponding configuration file and delete it. (It's got 3.2 stuff in it that's confusing KDE 3.1.4.) When you restart kde, it will rebuild the configuration files with sane defaults. Paul Abrahams
